Sometimes I just don't "get" The Frisky. Sometimes they want to be edgy, as when they ask women what they would do with a penis for a day -- and then, almost as an afterthought, ask men if they've ever thought about what they'd do with a vagina for a day.
But then they go and run an essay like this one, Girl Talk: The Naked Truth, in which Diane Shipley expresses her utter incredulity that anyone would want to be a naturist.
Yet my friend says she’s enjoying her new hobby a lot. I say, Shouldn’t a hobby be something you can use to pad out your resume?No, a hobby should be something you enjoy.
The British Naturist’s society website says that “Naturism is non-sexual nudity,” but who’s around to enforce what people are thinking?Should someone be doing that? Oh, right, this is England, where you don't have all that free speech nonsense we Americans have burdened ourselves with.
The site then goes on to state that many people are prejudiced against displays of nudity. But I’m not sure not wanting to see the naked bodies of people I’ve never met before can really be considered a prejudice.
You've made your decisions regarding what naturist life is like (and more power to you) with, I presume, no exposure (*ahem*) to the lifestyle itself or people who live it. And when one of your otherwise-intelligent friends embraces it and finds pleasure in it, you aren't prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt? You aren't prepared to concede that maybe she knows something about what she's doing that you don't know? Some friend you are.
Sounds like prejudice to me.
